So it was pretty obvious that I should’ve gone out the previous round, my Brian Joo cover was pretty weak compared to the other submissions by other contestants, but I think I just felt like I wanted to fight it and keep going, at least another round, so I asked for last minute help from friends to vote for me.
This round, I didn’t ask for votes at all. A few people did ask me where to vote, but then I told them not to because my skills weren’t up to par with the rest of those left in the competition lol.
The judges comments I will link here , enjoy them lol
But, nevertheless, I am very satisfied with how far I’ve come, and have enjoyed the journey so much. I haven’t improved though, which is kinda annoying, I just don’t know how to improve…yet….but I really appreciate all the feedback and critique that has been given to me by the judges. I don’t get pointers that often because I think a lot of my friends think that they need to sugarcoat everything? lol anyway, it’s been great.
Also, I was able to collab (2ne1’s I love You) with 2 fantastic singers (and rappers) - Ashley and Beckie (visit there channels here and here) so I’m very grateful.
I want to thank everyone who has supported me this far in Soompi Idol, and especially those that suggested songs for me to sing that I ignored LOL.

CRYING GUYS. I PASSED ROUND 3 ON AUDIENCE VOTES. Thank you everyone who voted, I kinda posted about the polls last minute but I’m happy that you guys voted ;w;
I felt pretty meh going into this round because I knew that my singing didn’t stand a chance with the rest of the contestants…because I am sadly not a very good singer LOL. Well I guess it depends on the song, but honestly, my singing is so subpar it’s not funny :|
Onto the comments judges (here)

Emily - O - I’ve always been happy to find another great female rapper in this competition. Just one thing though, you shouldn’t go too much with the emotions from the beginning of the song, because you won’t be able to display something further as you go on with the song. In other words, you shouldn’t show too much from the start because there won’t be much left for the middle/end parts. I also advise you to change your rap tone at various times, since it has a very high tendency to get too repetitive and boring.Kevin - X - Yeah to be blunt, the singing could use some work. Some of the singing felt a little uncomfortable and it could be smoother. The rap parts were really good, but I also felt that some parts needed to be more refined. Jaeho - X - I think we set the bar way too high for you because we were really impressed by your Tasha cover. Although your rapping was pretty nice, some parts felt a bit rushed and unnatural. The singing was average, but overall, your entry is still good. But at this point in the competition, I’m not sure if it’s enough. You definitely have talent though. You just need to polish your skills a bit more to go from good to amazing.
All the judges were spot on. I didn’t really spend enough time on making this entry good because I didn’t think that I would get in anyway lol ;w;
Also……..CRIES I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS BAR BEING SET SO HIGH BECAUSE OF MY TASHSA COVER. Maybe I should’ve tried more upbeat songs? Honestly I was a bit scared that I kinda peaked with my cover of Get It In, because it’s such an attention grabbing song that anything that comes after that isn’t a powerhouse song will fall pretty flat. But honestly, if I hadn’t cover Get It In, I probably would’ve been out of Soompi Idol 2 rounds ago ;w;
But yeah I definitely need work on my singing and polishing up my rapping :D
This round coming up, the theme is “Collabs” - so we’re going into teams. I’ll be singing with Kyung-Jae and Icy_ (check our their entries by clicking their names) - and both of them can sing AND rap, so I’m definitely looking forward to working with them!

other notes:
Once again, originally I had planned on doing another song. LBA (Love Breaking Apart) by Dynamic Duo ft E-Sens, but swapped to a Brian Joo song because I love Brian (and honestly I’m glad I swapped to Brian because then I was contacted by Naureen of AuS2one about promoting their charity event and possibly earning a Meet & Greet ticket to the concert)
But as I said, I made the swap, and well, it’s a song I know fairly well but then I thought to myself….I can’t sing this song, I’m a freakin’ rapper :| So I remembered that Seo In Guk and Brian made a video of a rap remix of the song, where they were basically just fooling around and rapping. So I went to the video and transcribed lyrics by ear LOL. Now, being a non-Korean person, things became pretty hard for me, especially since it’s not a studio released track, I had to strain at some parts to hear the lyrics. But I’ve heard the song so many times that I figured it would be faster to learn the rap remix of “Loved, It’s now over” than learn “LBA”, and I love Brian.
I was contemplating this for a while, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and stay in another round ;w; so if you liked my cover of 사랑하다 끝났어 (rap remix) by Brian Joo and Seo In Guk ( here ) - help me stay in the competition and vote for me “notochrasy” here http://poll.pollcode.com/n3j8
thanks! xx
This is pretty much gonna be my last round in Soompi Idol, I know my own potential and I know I technically can’t compare to the other contestants that are left in the contest so I basically adopted at “let’s wing this” attitude and picked a song that probably wasn’t the best for me.
I covered Brian Joo’s 사랑하다 끝났어 (rap remix) because I’ve always wanted to cover a Brian song, and I always lack motivation to make covers in general, so since I had to cover something for Round 3 of Soompi Idol, I thought “hey why not Brian?”.
BRIAN WHY YOU SING SUCH GOOD SONGS. Anyway, also this is doubling up as a “damn Brian is coming to Australia and I can’t go see him” cover. I did the same thing when JJ Lin came to Melbourne (I’m in Adelaide) and I couldn’t go.
So yeah. I hope you enjoy my last entry for Soompi Idol because I don’t think I’ll be passing this round LMFAO. Cheers.

First off, this was my entry: Baby Love by Len. I went into this round with little expectation of passing because I had been sick for week prior to recording the cover. My bout with this virus affected my singing in the worst ways possible. I was so congested that I couldn’t breathe out of my nose, and this was evident in the cover tbh haha. And I put a warning on the actual vid about my congestion hahahaha.
Originally I had planned to do a different song for Round 2, but it just sounded super awkward with my sick voice. Initially it was going to be B1A4’s Chu Chu Chu, and then I figured it didn’t work so I swapped to something with more rapping, Supreme Team’s Then Then Then, but the singing parts just sounded super dead so I tried to find a song that had a lighter arrangement. I tried 10cm’s Talk, but in the end it sounded awkward, so I settled with a song a knew fairly well: Baby Love by Len. Len is a singer known for his huge vocal range and a stunning falsetto, I think I may bit off more than I could chew for the song. But I figured, what the hell, might as well lol.
I passed!
Not exactly with flying colours though… :| compared to my previous entry for round 1, this entry was a complete dud in my opinion haha.

Michael - X - The phrasing of your beginning adlibbing was pretty broken…try to keep your notes nice and connected. While your sound has an interesting rasp to it and is overall quite distinct, you sound congested and there seems to be a lot of air escaping during your singing. Try to maintain the support throughout your singing. Also your final ascending scale was a bit rough…too much pressure and lack of ease. Rapping was nice to listen to. Overall I think you have a lot of potential and can do better than this.
Shannon - O - I really do hear the congestion in your voice, so I took that into consideration. In the end, your head voice was somewhat off and it bothered me a bit, but your rap was the deciding factor for me. Next time, I really suggest you push with your rapping over singing.
Jaeho - O - I think I was expecting too much because your last entry was awesome. Your singing here is a little too breathy or gaspy. (Edit: Oh, you’re sick? Oops. Maybe that’s why). I’m not sure what the right word is to describe your singing, but rapping is definitely your stronger skill.
I agree with all the judges, whole-heartedly, on everything lol. And I’m actually terrible with adlibbing, so I figured it would show eventually haha.
Interesting point though, my pronunciation hasn’t been commented on at all, in any of my entries so far. One of the judges on another person’s entry commented that “unlike singing, it’s extremely easy to pick up pronunciation errors in rap”, so taking into consideration that my rapping has been the highlight of my covers…this says good things about my pronunciation right? LOL.
I’m definitely going to be focusing on rapping more from now on. Despite the fact that I’m not a natural born rapper, it’s obvious that my voice suits rapping. And while I may not have the natural knack, I have the skills that allow me to at least pretend like I’m a good rapper :| haha.
I’m wondering whether if that’s going to be me in a hard spot later on though, considering the introduction of themed rounds. If I limit myself to rap tracks, it’s going to get harder to pick songs ;w;
OH WELL.
closing off with a magnificent comment from Michael on another entry
“you shouldn’t let style (emotional expression) completely overwhelm substance (technical foundation/musicianship)”
UNTIL NEXT TIME. CIAO.

Pretty much a few minutes after the results were posted, I was invisible on Skype (lurking lulz) and Jaeho (the host and one of the judges of Soompi Idol) posted the link to the results on the Soompi forums.
I was a little apprehensive before looking at the results because I used autotune in my Round 1 entry. The song was Tasha’s (Yoon Mirae) “Get It In” and the original song has autotune in it. I initially was going to forget about the autotune and keep my vocals raw but then it sounded a little boring. So I stayed true to the original. The pain point of covering this song was to show off my rapping anyway, so I figured whatever lol.
If you haven’t listened to my entry, here it is.
So I got in. LOLOLOLOL. Mostly because I actually put effort into this entry maybe. Despite the fact that I did use autotune, I still can hold a tune without the effect so my entry didn’t rub the wrong way :)

Michael - O - Usually I despise when people use autotune in their covers, however I can still tell you’re a very competent singer with/without autotune. There’s a lot of oomph behind your singing due to a good amount of support and you keeping an open throat while singing (especially in the upper areas). Rapping wise you have great diction and energy and it really aids you in being able to bring out meaning of the song across. Great job on this.
Esther - O - that was really good, if someone told me that that was the actual song instead of a cover I would’ve believed it.
Jaeho - O - Great singing and rapping tones. I really liked listening to this. Your voice is a breath of fresh air.
Ok, I was pleasantly surprised with the feedback. ALSO, I’m really happy that I was able to get feedback from Michael (“Beginner-Intermediate Music Theory, 7 years of choir as a male soloist, 2 years of classical vocal training, 1 year of pop/R&B vocal coaching and over 5 years of vocal analysis”). He gave some awesome feedback a different batch of preliminary entries and I was sad because I wasn’t in that batch lmao. BUT YAY. I’m definitely not surprised about the autotune comment, I saw that coming haha. There was talk of autotune use in the soompi idol Skype chat as well, so…I’m gonna steer clear of autotune from now on!
HUGS ESTHER AND JAEHO TOO.
But I’m wary of a lawsuit, so let’s keep it human contact minimal lulz.
new tag! for soompi idol :)
The results of the top 50 that passed the preliminary round of Soompi Idol were posted a few hours ago and after an extremely confusing look through the forum, I finally found the results.
I was actually tweeted by Izzy (CINTAAMONYET) that I passed so I was like “WHAT SERIOUSLY?” because I think I chose a slightly anti-climatic song that was pretty much a song that noone knew. So I was a bit taken back that I passed the preliminary round.
The entries were split up into batches to be judges by different judges. I was judged by Mike, a university graduate with a marketing degree. This was Mike’s comment for my entry.
087. notochrasy - O - Your rapping is extremely impressive, and this is what I’m passing you on. Your singing sounds like it has potential, but there were a few mistakes that almost led me to not allowing you to go through. Work on some vocals that are a little more slick, but really do what you can to show off your rapping!
lmao, my singing almost didn’t get me through. Yeah, I’ll admit I didn’t put that much effort into the singing parts for my entry but I didn’t realise it was that bad hahahaha. But yeah, I think I’ll be finding some tracks with a lot of rapping for future entries :|
ps. I kinda want to tweet New Champ and told him I got in, but I think I’m just being too much of an opportunist lol.
